Natural Disaster Cup

San Jose plays Chicago Fire tomorrow at 1:30 PM PT on Fox Soccer Channel. Why would you watch this? I don't know, to see a game played at a baseball park. Chicago should rule the day.

San Jose is an expansion team this year. True, Yallop is guiding the helm. I would not count out any surprises. However, this game will take place in San Jose, their first home game as a "new" franchise. San Jose's story is both one filled with triumph and tragedy in it's short existence. Now it raises like a phoenix from the ashes. Yeah, like that. They are a proud franchise that took the MLS cup in 2001 and 2003 and even hoisted the Supporters' Shield before being hauled off to armpit of Texas. Sorry Houston. I love your food but it's freakin' humid there (I went to school near there).

Anyway, so far few away goals have been scored and home field advantage has been the order of the day for the most part. Can that trend stay alive? Maybe. I know it's a long shot. The game will be played at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. Yes, where the Oakland A's play. How weird. What you are seeing is the owners (also of the A's) provide for the big draw: Cuauhtemoc Blanco. Expect decent numbers for the first game. Does San Jose have much of a supporters club. I doubt it. But, I'll be looking out for groups of blue shirts. Or would it be black considering this year's jersey? Come on you Earthquakes! :-)

Wild ass guess: Chicago 3 - San Jose 1

I'm being generous and optimist because I am a lousy fan that likes to see goals. I don't know who's going to be scoring for San Jose. No one I can see on their roster has any real honest history of scoring goals at this level. Right?

At least this game will be on grass. I'm still recovering from that awful awful Saprissa surface in the Houston game mid-week. Uggh.

Greetings and Salutations

The Dead Winger lives. I'm old. My knees ache. Yet, still I play. And, I watch. This blog will be yet another of those places that spin yarns of football...or soccer...whatever.
